　　Brownwasveryproudofhisyoungson.Oncehewastalkingtoavisitor,tellingthemanhowcleverhissonwas.

　　布朗非常欣赏他的小儿子。一次他和一位客人聊他的儿子有多聪明。

　　"Theboyisonlytwoyearsold,"hesaid,"andknowsallanimals.He'sgoingtobeagreatnaturalist.Here,letmeshowyou."

　　布朗说：“他只有两岁，就认识所有的动物了。他长大一定会是一个出色的自然学家。来，我让你看看。”

　　Hetookabookofnaturalhistoryfromthebookshelf,placedBobbyonhisknee,openedthebookandshowedhimapictureofagiraffe.

　　他从书架上拿下一本自然书，把博比抱到膝上，打开书。指着一张长颈鹿的画片。

　　孩子刚出生不久后的一天，当妈的要出去办点事，所以把照看孩子的光荣任务交给了那位新爸爸。

　　Soonafterthemotherleft,thebabystartedtocry.Thefatherdideverythinghecouldthinkof,butthebabyjustwouldn'tstopcrying.Finally,thedadgotsoworriedhedecidedtotaketheinfanttothedoctor.

　　可是，妈妈刚出去一会，孩子就开始哭了。那位新爸爸使尽了浑身解数，但就是没法让孩子不哭。最后，孩子爸爸有点担心了，决定抱着孩子去找医生看看。

　　Afterthedoctorlistenedtoallthefatherhaddonetogetthebabytostopcrying,thedoctorbegantoexaminethebaby'sears,chestandthendowntothediaperarea.Whenheopenedthediaper,hefoundwasindeedfull.

　　医生听新爸爸说完事情的经过，开始给孩子作检查，先是检查孩子的耳朵，然后是胸部，最后检查到系尿布的地方。当医生打开尿布时，他发现尿布里面已经装得满满当当的。

　　DeepInthebackwoodsofTennessee,ahillbilly'swifewentintolaborinthemiddleofthenight,andthedoctorwascalledouttoassistinthedelivery.

　　在田纳西州丛林的深处，一个山里人的妻子半夜时分临产，一名医生被叫来帮手接生。

　　Sincetherewasnoelectricity,thedoctorhandedthefather-to-bealanternandsaid,"Here.YouholdthishighsoIcanseewhatIamdoing."Soon,ababyboywasbroughtintotheworld.

　　因为那个地方没有通电，医生把灯笼递给那个快要当爸爸的农夫，说，“把这个高高举着，这样，我好干活”。很快，一名男婴降临到这人世界上。

　　“Heythere,”saidthedoctor,"Don'tbeinsucharushtoputthatlanterndown.Ithinkthere'sanotheronecoming."Sureenough,withinminuteshehaddeliveredababygirl."Holdthatlanternup,don'tsetitdownthere'sanotherone!"saidthedoctor.
