Recent years, more and more wonderful online open classes gain popularity among teachers and students. We have to admit that with the development of network technology and easily available accesses to internet, cyber education somehow plays a significant role in our life or precisely speaking, education. This has generated a controversial topic-whether or not traditional campus education can be replaced by cyber education. Some people believe traditional education should be canceled owing to its ineffectiveness and tediousness compared with online study. But many others argue that traditional ones can not be replaced because it provides a real communication environment which distant learning can not provide. In my opinion ,there is no denying that virtual universities has a lot of advantages, but still it can not replace campus education. First or all, what traditional education focuses on is not only knowledge from textbooks but also character building. As we all know, everyone’s personality has been shaped and polished since a young age, and school days is a part of time when our character is radically shaped and modeled. Campus education renders us a stage where we make a clear distinction between right and wrong, and we grow into a person who can properly fit in with surroundings, or in the long term, society. However, distant learning shows no advantages in this respect. Lack of interpersonal communication in cyber space will definitely lead to weaknesses in communicative competence. Cyber students are isolated from one another, and they are cut off from a situation where hot debate and final compromise exist. In addition, online degree programs give learners a lot more freedom to choose what to study which as far as I can see is not a good phenomenon. With the competition in society becoming fiercer and fiercer, a generalist is urgently needed. That expects us to learn multifarious things even we do not prefer them. Campus education requires us to take foundation courses which will pave the way for further study in the future. In order to become a person with great competitive strength, courses we hate to take is also a needful element we can not ignore. However, given the much freedom to choose what classes to take, online degree programs limit our development at the same time. Moreover, cyber education is not as understandable as campus ones. Faced with plenty of network resources, students tend to miss the key point of the content and easily mix up some concepts. These problems are especially deadly to those who are less capable. But n traditional classroom, inaccurate understandings and bad habits can be corrected immediately. In a conclusion, both network education and traditional education are necessary for students, but neither of them can take the place of the other one. If traditional teaching patterns and the modern ones can be combined together, more efficient learning atmosphere will be created as well as the success in teaching.
