hold off 推迟；等一等
A.It's ten o'clock. Is it too late for us to phone Prof. Brown about the students'council meeting?

B:Let's hold off till tomorrow.
还是明天再说吧。

hold on 等一等；（电话）别挂
A:If I don't find my wallet pretty soon, I'm going to have to report it stolen.

B:Hold on. Before you call the campus security office, have you checked your car or your jacket pocket, everywhere?
