vit c supplements during pregnancy increase asthma risk
scottish research suggests that children of mothers who take vitamin c supplements during pregnancy are at increased risk of developing asthma.
a study published in the american journal of respiratory and critical care medicine surveyed nearly 2,000 healthy women to determine the impact of antioxidant intake during pregnancy on the risk of asthma and eczema in the first 2 years of life.
wheezing and eczema risks at 2 years climbed as vitamin c intake increased and women in the highest quintile of intake had infants with three times the risk of wheeze compared with infants of women in the lowest quintile.
further follow-up of these children will be used to assess whether the associations reported here persist into later childhood and to explore the possibility that any associations may be modified by childhood diet conclude the authors.
