【篇一】2020年6月大学英语四级听力美文

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for,and if you dareto dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want toknow if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of beingalive. It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you havetouched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or havebecome shriveled and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can bewith joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to thetips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful,be realistic, or to rememberthe limitations of being human. It doesn't interest me if the story you're telling me is true. Iwant to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself, if you can bear theaccusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. I want to know if you can be faithfuland therefore be trust worthy. I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not prettyevery day, and if you can source your life from god's presence. I want to know if you can livewith failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of thefull moon, "Yes!" It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. Iwant to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to thebone, and do what needs to be done for the children. It doesn't interest me who you are, howyou came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and notshrink back. It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want toknow what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can bealone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

【篇二】2020年6月大学英语四级听力美文

A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; forthere is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the bestcompany, whether it be of books or of men. A good book may be among the best of friends. Itis the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient andcheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress.Italways receives us with the same kindness, amusing and instructing us in youth, andcomforting and consoling us in age. Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by farthe most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but bookssurvive.Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they firstpassed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was them said and thought still speaks tous as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time has been to sift out the badproducts; for nothing in literature can long survive but what is really good. Books introduce usinto the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have everlived. We hear what they said and did; we see them as if they were really alive; we sympathizewith them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel asif we were in measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe. The book is a livingvoice. It is an intellect to which one still listens. Hence we ever remain under the influence ofthe great men of old. The greatest intellects of the world are as much alive now as they wereages ago.

【篇三】2020年6月大学英语四级听力美文

As the pace of life continues to increase in the modern society, we are fast losing the art ofrelaxation.Once you are in the habit of rushing through life, being on the go from morning tillnight, it is very hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind andbody.Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it.In fact, it is not thebad thing it is often supposed to be.A certain amount of stress is vital to provide one withmotivation and give purpose to life.It is only when the stress gets out of control that it canlead to poor performance and ill health. The amount of stress a person can withstanddepends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress at all, and suchcharacters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities.Others lose heart at thefirst signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react bothchemically and physically. In fact we make a choice between" flight" or" fight".In moreprimitive days the choices made the difference between life or death. The crises we meet todayare unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response.Itis when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that healthbecomes endangered.Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease haveestablished links with stress.Since we can not remove stress from our lives( it would beunwise to do so even if we could),we need to find ways to deal with it in order that we can stayhealthy in mind and body.
