An importa nt activity duri ng the Spring Festival is bai nia n (to pay a New Year call). People start to pay New Year calls from the lunar New Y ear's Day, that is, the first day of the first mon th of the lunar cale ndar. Ever since the Ming Dyn asty in

the 14th century, ordinary people have begun to exchange greeti ng cards on this day.
