课文人民英雄纪念碑 People's Heroes Memorial Monument, located in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, is a memorial to commemorate China's revolutionary martyrs. The Monument was designed by Liang Sicheng, an architectural expert. He used a circular design and the shape of the Monument is like a giant roof. It was inaugurated in 1958. In the front of the Monument is an inscription which reads: "Eternal Glory to the People's Heroes". From the Monument, you can see the Monument of Mao Zedong in the middle of the podium, surrounded by a group of famous revolutionaries. These are representatives of the sacrifices and hard work of the people who had devoted themselves to the great revolution and were considered nation builders by their people. The Monument also features many sculptures of various heroes from different provinces. There are also bronze statues of great martyrs from the cities and counties. In front of the Monument are five cannon muzzles which were used in the military parade of 1958, which was the first anniversary of the victory of the Chinese revolution. In 1989, the Monument was listed as a Grade One National Cultural Protection unit. In 1994, the Monument was listed as a National Key Protection unit. The Monument is a solemn reminder of the courage and heroism of China’s revolutionary martyrs. It is also true symbol of the spirit of the Chinese nation and a dear reminder of our people’s dedications and sacrifices.
