He was like a big brother to us. A couple of times we watched soccer matches in a coffee shop together. During the first time, we saw that he beamed2 with happiness. He told us that we were lucky —my husband and I were together in this foreign land. He said he had been lonely for eight years. He rarely saw his family, as they were far away in his home country. During the second get-together, he told us that we were his family. He said that he loved us and that he would miss us because he was going back to his home country for a vacation for one and a half months. That night, he said something that surprised me: "You changed my life..." As my husband and I went home that night, we couldn’t believe what we had been told. Deep in our hearts, we were touched by what our friend had said. We sent him a message upon returning home to thank him for being a big brother to us in this foreign land.
