Should people start a project after finishing another or should they do several projects at a time?
People today are always busy, for they have so many things to deal with everyday. So they are always seeking the best way to get their jobs done—some do several projects at a time in order to save time, while others believe doing projects one by one brings the best quality. From my point of view, we should take different strategies when facing different situations.
If the projects we are dealing with have much to do with each other and they can be done by using similar knowledge, skills, and experience, doing them at a time is possible. Actually, we do this very often in our daily lives. Many students who major in English get good scores on TOEFL before they graduate; students who are preparing for TOEFL can prepare for GRE or SAT at the same time.
In such cases, we can see that people are capable of doing several related projects simultaneously, and sometimes these projects even promote each other. For example, professors can provide better education in classes if they do enough research, and they also get inspirations for researches when interacting with their students.
However, if the projects we plan to finish have nothing to do with each other and each of them requires us to consume considerable time and energy, doing them together may not be practical. This happens frequently in our daily lives as well. A student can hardly have a good academic performance at school while making sure his or her company runs well; a history professor is unlikely to do researches which are not related to his or her specialty. When facing such situation, people are very likely to do their projects one after another in order to make sure that they can do both successfully. Sometimes we may even give up one of our projects in order to have a bigger chance to succeed in the other. I guess Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would agree with this.
Sometimes we need to carry out our plans at a time for time-saving, and on other occasions, doing one after finishing another helps us to ensure success. Which strategy we choose depends on whether the projects are related or not.
