Daimler last Monday apologized and removed a senior executive after he was accused of making disparaging remarks about China.

Rainer Gartner, who headed Daimler's local trucks and buses unit, made insulting comments about Chinese people during a parking row with a Chinese driver at a residential community in Beijing's Shunyi district.

He also used pepper spray to disperse people angered by his remark.

"His conduct went against the values of 'equality and respect' that Daimler has long upheld," Daimler said in a statement. "We have immediately relieved the manager of his position," it said.

The incident received wide public attention after two local newspapers－the Beijing Times and Beijing News－reported it on their websites respectively. It also became a hot topic on China's popular Sina Weibo microblog.
