青少年的饮食习惯与食物选择(英文版) Food and Eating habits of Teenagers Current ratings Rating: 3.0/5 (2 votes cast) Food habits that are seen more frequently among teens than other age-group include excessive snacking, eating away from home, dieting and meal skipping. Teens cite taste, time and convenience as the key factors in choosing their food and beverages. They lack the ability to associate eating habits with future disease risk and show little concern for their future health. They are more focused on “fitting in” with their peers. There are many factors that contribute to these behaviors. Meal skipping is a common behavior among adolescents as teens try to sleep longer in response to early school start times or they wanted to lose weight-through calorie restriction. Among meals, breakfast is the most commonly skipped meal. Teens who skip meals often snack in response to hunger instead of eating a meal. Snack foods consumed are often high in added fats, sweetness, and sodium. Soft drinks are one of the most commonly consumed snacks. Teens should be encouraged to make healthy choices while choosing snack foods and beverages instead of forcing them to avoid snacking. The fast food restaurants and conveinience stores have become favourite place for teens to spend time with their friends, they enjoy eating such foods together. Moreover, the low price, convenient access and taste of fast foods also appeals to them. As these fast foods and conveinience foods are low in vitamins, minerals and fibre and high in fats, sweeteners and sodium, health professionals should counsel them to make wise and healthy choices when eating these foods. They can also be encouraged to check labels to see the contents of food. They can substitute them with whole grains and less put and sweetened products. The frequency with which adolescents eat meals with their families decreases with age. They can be encouraged to have made with their family. This will allow more communication between teens and their parents and also provide an ideal environment. For the parents to promote healthy food choices and attitude towards eating. Teens who eat at home more frequently have been found to consume more fruits and vegetables and to eat fewer fried foods. They have better academic performance and to be less likely to engage in health risk behavior. Most of the food advertisements promote beverages, candy, and fast foods targeting the teens and hence influencing their eating behavior. Media literacy education can be taught to teens to assist them in determining the accuracy and validity of media and advertising messages. Many teens describe themselves as being overweight despite being of normal weight. The practice of dieting is seen more among females than males. Disordered eating like Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa can also been seen in adolescents. Nutrition education and counseling should be focused on discouraging these foods.
