Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

The movie is more entertaining than I thought. It focuses more on the story of characters than the display on the financial industry. People without professional knowledge can also understand the love between Jack and Winnie. Money never sleeps.

The fact is that Wall Street guys are working day and night for money. Its quite typical that businessmen would like to devote themselves to the market. Its the eagerness for money that motivates them to invest, plan and compete. Money is their only target. They can reach their goal by fair means or foul. The purchase of Keller Zabel stock at 2$ a share, which was 79$ a week ago, shows the greed of tycoons; the death of Louise Zabel is caused by the ruthless battle between enterprises; Gekko can cheat his daughter for a large amount of money to drive himself back to the Wall Street; when Jack asked James how much would he earn to leave Wall Street, the CEO of Churchill Schwartz answered without hesitate, more. The economists believe that peoples wants are unlimited. They tried their best to earn as much as they can as the resources are scarce. Gekko put greed is good which means your very goal is making money, you can do whatever you want to achieve this goal except breaking the law. Actually, Gekko himself was sent to prison because of the financial game in the prequel. In this sequel, he left the cell and he seemed to have got rid of the Wall Street and become a wise sage to give people advice to manage the market. But as the title Money never sleeps, his desire is still alive. He made use of his daughter in law, Jack, to fix the relationship with his daughter, gained her trust to give him the money in Switzerland and then took away all the money to enter the Wall Street financial game again. Love never sleeps.

I prefer to consider the film a love story happened in Wall Street. Unlike the prequel, which presents a tycoons struggling for money, Money Never Sleeps presents a Wall Street young mans struggling for love. Because of love, Jack decides to revenge on James, one of whom brought Keller Zanbel to bankrupt, leading to the death of his mentor; because of love, he cant ignore the recourse from his mother, who has been addicted to the real estate; because of love, he gave the 1 billion dollars to Gekko, the father of his beloved, without suspicion. As a young man, he is a genius, but as a Wall Street guy, he failed because he has emotions and it seems that he didnt care for money. What struggling in Wall Street needs is just the greed for money. Jack is greed on love.

Money and love never sleep. But I think Oliver wants to tell us that love may sleep longer than money. In the end of the film Gekko gives the money back to Winnie and Winnie forgives her father. It comes to a happy ending, without money, just the pure and nice family unity created by love. Love is everything. Money cant buy love but love can create fortune.
