Unit 21 Body language(listening)



Hello, everyone. Today I very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is the listening part of Senior English for China book 1 Unit21, Body language, and it is made up of six parts.

Part 1 My understanding of this lesson

This lesson is a listening one. It is around body language to expand. after it students can know some body language and thus can communicate with different ways. The analysis of the teaching material:

The topic of this unit is body language, and the whole lesson is spread around this topic. listening is one of the most important items in English learning. It can train students' English ability and promote mutual communication. It also plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. By studying this Lesson, Students can improve their listening abilities and learn more about the knowledge of body language. Teaching Aims: 1.Knowledge aim:

Learn how to use some useful words, phrases and understand some difficult sentences. . Describe gestures and facial expressions talk something about body language

2.Ability aim: Train and improve students’ listening ability

3.Emotional aim : reach a better and more convenient communication Teaching Important Points: 1. Master the new words and useful phrases appearing in this period. Confused angry tired happy sad I’ve lost

1 Learn to describe gestures and falial expressions 2 use the body language properly.

Part 2 My teaching theories, methods and aids

Before dealing with this lesson, I’ ll do my best to carry out the following theories: Make the Students the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as director Combine the language structures with the language functions; Let the students receive some common sense about body language while they are learning the English language. Teaching Methods:

1. situational language teaching method: that is to say, through creating a proper environment to inspire students’learning interests and then make them study actively and willingly. 2. task-based leaning method: it’s very practical and operable and also it can stimulate

students’initiative in learning and develop their ability in language. Using this method students are the real masters in class while teachers act as the directors.

3. group learning method: in the following lesson I will divide the whole class into four groups. Within the group students can talk and discuss freely. This method can stimulate the ability of


thinking through interaction.

Teaching Aids:

1. A tape recorder 2. some books 2. the blackboard Part 3 Analysis of the students

The students of Senior Grade 1 are interested in learning English. They learn something new very quickly. In daily life body language is often used. So it is necessary for students to learn something about body language. Part 4 Teaching steps / procedures

I have designed the following steps to train their abilities of speaking, especially listening abilities. The entire steps are: lead-in, presentation, practice and consolidation, homework.

Step 1 lead-in

Through free talk, arouse arouse the students’ interest in this lesson and begin warming up, such as:

Nowadays people can communicate with each other in many ways such as speaking, writing, surfing the Internet and body language. Today we’ll study one of forms of communication——body language T: What is body language?

S: let students answer(Body language is the movements or postures of our body , and we can use it to show other people what we are thinking or feeling.) Now let’s learn about some gestures . Step 2 presentation

1. elicit the contents of textbook

(1) Match each picture with emotion and a correct sentence.

(2) Just imagine you are the person who is in the picture ,please express the feeling with one or two sentences

2. analyze this lesson in details

Listening

1. Listen to the tape and choose the best answer to the following questions Part 1 and Part2 in the textbook of the page 57

2. Use body language to act them out

In this step, Task based teaching method is used.

Speaking

1. Study some useful expressions and improve the speaking abilities 2 .Act out the situations

Situaton 1 An old man is carrying a very heavy suitcase

Situation2 Somebody is late for a flight and wants to go ahead of the queue Situation 3 An old and sick person is on a crowded bus and wants to sit down.

Step 3 practice and consolidation

1. Pair work: work together with your partner to communicate and act by using body language 2. share the ideas of body language.

Step 4 homework

1. Remember the new words and phrases of this lesson

2.Practice listening after class

3.draw five pictures about body language and express the feeling with brief sentences


Part 5 Blackboard design
