Why? Did this have any positive/negative consequences?) According to Robin and Reidenbach (1987), a successful company should assume social responsibility. They believe that social responsibility is a significant factor for all multinational companies in strengthening their brand image. Wal-Mart does this in a number of diverse ways. First of all, the Women’s Development Fund was set up in China by Wal-Mart and the Chinese Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) in 2012 aimed to assist those Chinese women who need financial support. It has already helped 1,316 women of families achieve their own business dream (Wal-Mart, 2013). This act is really helpful for gender equality and improving the social status of these women. In addition to setting up these funds, as food safety has become a serious issue in Chinese society in recent years, Wal-Mart as a worldwide food retailer is also taking measures to deal with the problem. The company announced RMB100 million would be invested to strengthen the food safety administration in China during the next 3 years (Wal-Mart China, 2013). Finally, Wal-Mart also made contributions to support the government’s initiative to reduce plastic waste by launching a nationwide campaign with the slogan “Go green with no plastic bags”. This campaign can help promote the idea of environmental protection, and helps to raise the company’s “green” image. From examples such as these, it can be seen that Wal-Mart tried hard to take its social and environmental responsibilities seriously. 本文来源:https://www.wddqw.com/doc/d4888b51376baf1ffc4fada8.html
