Some People Like to Buy Books to Read, Other People Like to Borrow Books FromLibraries or From Other People. Which Do You Prefer?

  许多人喜欢买书看,还有人喜欢借书看。你呢?

Some People Like to Buy Books to Read, Other People Like to Borrow Books From Libraries orFrom Other People. Which Do You Prefer?

I like reading books. I not only buy books but also borrow books from libraries and from otherpeople. Over the years, this has become a habit. T his habit of mine is built upon the famoussaying "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed anddigested."

Every time I go to the book store, I will buy some books like dictionaries, reference bookswhich are of pragmatic use and classical literary works which are to be chewed and digested. Unlike some people who buy books just for the purpose of filling their shelves and s howingothers how learned they are, my purpose is simple and practical — reading. Moreover, the booksI want to keep are usually too expensive and I can afford only a few volumes.

From libraries I borrow books that are to be swallowed, because, on the one hand, library booksare not allowed to keep a long time; and on the other hand, the library is a sea of books and Ithink I have to do speed-reading, that is, to swallow as many as I can.

I also borrow books from friends, especially new ar rivals. I just want to have a taste. If thetaste is good, then I will go and buy them to add to my store. If not, well, just for a taste.

In short, I don't mind wher e I can get books, but books are always my source of knowledgeand wisdom.

Studying the English Language in an English-Speaking Country is the Best but Not theOnly Way to Learn the Language. Do you Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

  你是否同意学习英语在说英语的国家,但这也不是学英语的办法这种观点?

Studying the English Language in an English-Speaking Country is the Best but Not the OnlyWay to Learn the Language . Do you Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

Learning English in an English-speaking count ry has many advantages. It is, therefore, a goodidea to learn English in Britain or America. However, I believe it is not the only way to learn thelanguage .

To begin with, most students in non-English-speaking countries learn English in high schools oruniversities. Although their spoken English is not usually of a very high standard, theirknowledge of grammar is often quite advanced. This is certainly useful when later they cometo an Englishspeaking country to perfect the language.

However, it is obviously advantageous to learn English in English-speaking countries where, every day, students will have ample chance to practise listening and speaking. In addition , students can experience the foreign culture, which greatly helps understand the language. This is especially true ifthey choose to live with an English or American family. Still, sincestudents are taught by native speakers, their reading and writing skills will improve as well .

As every coin has two sides, learning English at home also proves effective. At home studentswill have less stress and fewer problems in accommodation, expensive tuition and living costs .

In conclusion, it is preferable to study English in an English-speaking country, but areasonable level of English can be achieved at home, if a student is gifted and dedicated tostudy.

Some Students Think Studying in a University is Worth-while Only Because They CanGet a Degree. Do You Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

  许多人认为上大学是非常值得的,因为可以获得学位,你是否同意这种观点?

Some Students Think Studying in a University is Worth-while Only Because They Can Get aDegree. Do You Agree or Disagree with This Statement?

The surprising fact that I discovered during my first year at the university was that quite a bignumber of students were solely motivated by the academic degree they would obtain upongraduation. Certainly, I would not go anywhere near so far as to doubt the social and economicvalue that a degree would bring to students in future. However, I deem it too nar row forstudents to maintain this kind of attitude towards their studies.

In my mind, university life contain s many enjoyable things, such as new ideas, good booksand brilliant people. And the pursuit of new ideas, the reading of good books and the camp usf riends hip r equire a student's complete devotion but will shine in his whole life.

Probably this tendency is rooted in the vocation-oriented and the career-oriented motivation. If a student discovers his vocation, he finds a life-time pleas ure in pursuing his profession. Bycontrast, a career-oriented student tends to take the academic certificate as an only means topreferment.

In conclusion, the university provides students with many golden opportunities, getting adegree being one of them. The challenge of new ideas, the leisure to read and the chance tomeet people are equally important. Anyway, a broad mind adds so much to the value of adegree.

Behind every great achievement in anyone's life lies perseverance. We see this in everyhuman endeavour. Outstanding sportsmen spend all their time practising. Their endurance isbeyond imagination. The same is true of businessmen who build up for tunes. What we usuallysee are their achievements, but once we go behind the scenes we will find that they have put ina lot of continual steady efforts. We all have read of great musicians, writers and inventorswho have created or discover ed br eakthroughs in human achievement. Invariably they havesaid that they owe all their success to perseverance. As to college students, quite a bignumber of them have become successful language lear ners through perseverance, however, acertain group of them just stop half way and their previous efforts turn out to be fruitless.

Of all the countless examples the saga of Colonel Saunders is perhaps one of the mostoutstanding. The 65-year-old man from Kentucky had a dream to start a chain of fried chickenrestaur ants all over the world. To realize his dream, he knew that he needed a restaurant ownerto go into partnership with him to open the first restaurant and to fry chicken according to thesecret recipe he had. Colonel Saunders had knocked on 1008 doors before he finally found hispartner. It is doubtful whether many of us would have had the perseverance to knock even ahundred doors.

From the above discussion we can draw a conclusion that success comes to anyone who keepsworking perseveringly and lack of perseverance can only result in frustration and failure.

Confidence, in a broad sense, comprises self-trust, self-esteem, courage and indomitability. This definition, though somewhat vague and unsubstantial, can be appreciated throughexperience because in our lifetime, we are always seeking to achieve something successful andare always longing to attain a glorious goal, which can only be reached with the spirit of self-confidence.

As is known, self-confidence is accompanied by will, and that as a twin, offers hope. Those whodo not have a strong will often think themselves unable to carry out any thorny tasks, whilethose who have do not find the tas ks unsurmountably difficult. In fact, when our heart is voidof selfconfidence, every hope is gone, every thing on which we put our hands seems to be veiledin dark. For instance, according to experts, every year in the entrance examinations of all kinds, fully-prepared candidates lose nearly 5% to 10% of the full scores, and consequently meettheir Water loo simply because they underestimate their own abilities on the one hand, andover estimate possible difficulties on the other. As a result, their fear to meet new challengeleads to helpless ness in the examination.

Self-confidence can be regained (if you have ever lost it) by building faith in your self. True, whatever you do, you will encounter hardships. But success will come to you if you arecourageous enough to strive for it. If you are not, failure might be your life-companion.

2019年12月大学英语六级作文篇六

Everyone expects to succeed in whatever he/she does. Unfortunately no one is always successfulin all his/her life, not even such great people as Marx, Mao, Madam Currie and Einstein. Different people hold different attitudes towards failure. Some people become discouraged andare even defeated by failure, while some other people learn lessons from failure and continuetheir efforts .

There is no denying that failure is a bad thing, but "Bad things can turn to good things." It alldepends on how we deal with it. If we are pessimistic, we will lose heart. If we are optimistic, we will see hope. I really have sympathy for those who, being badly hurt by failure, lose self-confidence and confidence in life. However, I have even greater admiration for those who, being stimulated by failure, go on straight forward to achieve success.

I believe in the saying "Failure is the mother of success." If I fail, I will try again, If I fail again. I will try and try again.
