laurance--How about that?
soony--What?What happened?
laurance--Did you see what that guy did?

laurance--He made a U-turn right in the middle of the block and almost hit a kid on a bicycle.
soony--Drivers get crazier every day!
laurance--Right.Nobody wants to drive by the rules anymore.

the other way:相反的方向
U-turn:即三百六十度的调头.左转弯叫left-turn,右转弯叫日right-turn.注意搭配的动词是make.

laurance--There's a good chance that Mary will get home today.
soony--Teah.I had a letter from her friend,Susan,yesterday,and she said that Mary would probably arrive today.
laurance--Well, I hope she drives carefully.You know how the traffic is this time of year.
soony--Oh.Mary's a good driver--and pretty careful,too.I don't think we need to worry about her being careless.
laurance--true,but,nonetheless,that doesn't mean that all the other drivers are careful.There are a lot of wild drivers out there.
soony--I have confidence in Mary.She's very good about driving defensively.

a good chance:有很大的可能性.
about her being careless:her being careless 是复合宾语
nonetheless:(副词)然而,不过.=however,nevertheless
drive defensively:意思是开车时谨慎小心

2--That's not quite true. Stan Bailey was there,too.

1--Do you think I should call him? Would he be willing to help?
2--No problem. You know Stan. He's the kind of guy that's always willing to go the extra mile.
3--Hey. That's right. I remember one time when he gave up two days of vacation just to help me out with a problem I had.
1--That's good to know. I guess I'll give him a call today, then.

soony--You can drive me to the bank if you want to.My car's out of gas.
laurance--Yeah.Glad to.Let's go.
soony--Wait just a minute.I have to get my checkbook out of the desk.

1)rush:忙碌,匆匆忙忙。以rush构成的短语如,a rush of work/rush hour/gold rush等。
2)out of gas:没有油了。gas=gasoline;out of表示“没有”“短缺”,除与be动词连用外,还与run连用。如:I ran out of ink.He always runs out of money before the next pay day.

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?

laurance--Is there anything I can do?I'd like to help in some way if I can.

laurance--I feel so useless just hanging around with nothing to do.
soony--Don't worry.In a couple of days there'll be too much to do.Then you'll want to be back in these lazy days.
laurance--I guess I'm just a workaholic.I never was very good at doing nothing.
soony--Maybe you should learn how to relax and enjoy yourself more.

2)feel useless:感到无聊,无所事事。
3)hang around:闲荡无事。与hang about同义。
4)workaholic:过分卖力的工作,不知休息的人。

7)enjoy yourself:(固定说法)过快活日子。娱乐一番。
