the step puts the powerful ama's lobbying clout behind federal legislation aimed at clearing the way for importation of prescription drugs, the chicago tribune reported.
so far, the fda has blocked importation, citing safety concerns. despite the federal policy, several states have set up programs to safely import prescription drugs. opponents of importation are skeptical importation of foreign drugs would lower prices.
