I remember that on the Dragon Boat Festival, it was raining in the sky, and the rain curtain covered people's eyes. It was looming. I shouted to my parents to take me to see it. At the end of the meal, my father led me and my brother to the side of the Xijiang River. The high embankment was full of people on both sides. In the river, a dozen strong men were sitting on a long boat that looked like a dragon. The people standing beside the dragon head were struggling to beat drums. In the sound of drums, several long boats rushed forward in order. The people on the boat were struggling to paddle, and white water splashed on both sides of the dragon's body. Where the dragon boat goes, layers of spray rise and collide with each other, which is very spectacular. Before long, the dragon boat went away and disappeared in the misty fog. It turns out that dragon boat rowing is not to watch singing and dancing performances, but to watch several golden dragons compete bravely in the water, dancing and playing.
Although it was raining, the audience were all excited. The cheers and shouts were overwhelming. Every movement of the dragon boat stimulated the nerves of the audience. When I was a child, I felt very lively. It was like going to the flower street in the New Year, and then I jumped and cheered with the adults. When I was young, the dragon boat race was very rare. Men from every household should participate in it to show their courage. It is said that in the past, children also had to wash "dragon boat water" to ensure safety and no pain. Thinking of this, I wanted to try it, but found that the river was muddy and there were stains floating in it. Industrial wastewater and domestic sewage have already flowed into many rivers, and the river is no longer clear. I took back my outstretched hand and sighed in my heart.
On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, we will race dragon boats, eat zongzi, eat salted duck eggs, hang wormwood... There are various customs. Among them, my favorite activities are eating zongzi and racing dragon boats.
There is another story about eating zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival. In the Warring States Period, there was a patriotic poet named Qu Yuan in the State of Chu. He was so sad and indignant because of the collapse of his country that he threw stones into the Miluo River. People were afraid of the fish and shrimp in the river and ate Qu Yuan's body, so they wrapped zongzi and threw it into the river, hoping that they would eat zongzi instead of eating Qu Yuan's body. Later, in order to commemorate Qu Yuan, people wrapped and ate zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival.
The origin of zongzi is not only strange, but also there are many kinds of zongzi, such as salted mayonnaise meat zongzi, jujube paste zongzi, red bean sand zongzi, mung bean zongzi, etc. The dazzling dumplings are all my favorites.
After eating delicious dumplings, we will rush to Xixi Wetland to watch the dragon boat race. Painted dragon boats, neatly dressed, and crowds, the warm scene is really exciting.
The dragon boat race began, and the helmsmen were full of energy. With the drummer beating the rhythmic and exciting drum, the rowing posture was neat and powerful, the boat was moving forward like an arrow, the two sides were crowded with spectators, the shouting was like thunder, and the lively atmosphere immediately reached its climax. I jumped up with excitement. I am intoxicated in the competition of the dragon boat race... The Dragon Boat Festival is a lively festival, a festival with rich democratic culture. I love the Dragon Boat Festival in my hometown.
The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by boat races in the shape of dragons. Competing teams row their boats forward to a drumbeat racing to reach the finish end first. The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs to attempts to rescue the patriotic poet Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice into the water. Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings。
The celebration is a time for protection from evil and disease for the rest of the year. It is done so by different practices such as hanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking nutritious concoctions , and displaying portraits of evils nemesis,Chung Kuei. If one manages to stand an egg on its end at exactly 12:00 noon, the following year will be a lucky one.
Today, Grandma's family also wrapped up dumplings. I learned to make dumplings from my grandmother. Grandma took a leaf and rolled it with her hand. The leaf became a hollow cone. I took a leaf of rice dumplings and tried to roll it into a round cone shape, just like Grandma, but it was not rolled well. It was still a straight tube. When Grandma saw it, she pointed out: "Hold one corner of the leaf tightly with her left hand, roll the other corner of the leaf inwards with her right hand, tighten it hard below, and relax it above." Under Grandma's guidance, I rolled the leaf well.
Then, Grandma inserted a chopstick into the hollow conical rice dumplings, took a spoon to ladle some glutinous rice into it, and then shook the chopsticks evenly until the glutinous rice was tightly wrapped. I also put chopsticks and glutinous rice in the rice dumplings. But when you shake the chopsticks, you either pierce the leaves or the glutinous rice bag is not tight. Grandma said, "Shake the chopsticks gently and wrap the leaves tightly. Look..." Grandma said while demonstrating, while I listened and learned. ha-ha! My dumplings look like something.
Then the twine. Grandma squeezed the leaves tightly with both hands, wrapped two loops of rope around the sharp corners of the dumplings, and tied the ends of the rope. A beautiful dumplings was wrapped. I also tied the first zongzi. Then, the second, the third... I packed several in a row.
The last step is to cook zongzi. Put the bound zongzi into the pot one by one, then fill them with cold water for about 1cm, ignite the fire... After boiling the water for 15 minutes, change the position of the zongzi up and down in the pot, and then boil it for 1 hour at a low heat.
At this time, I realized that making zongzi was a craft, and it was very difficult to wrap it.
I feel that people commemorate Qu Yuan's great patriotism through various colorful activities, and the traditional customs of the Dragon Boat Festival have been formed over time. It contains the deep feelings of the people of the motherland and carries the splendid culture of the Chinese nation. It originated and developed in China. We should protect it, inherit it, and let people all over the world know that the Dragon Boat Festival is our own festival of the Chinese nation.
My mother bought rice dumplings, red dates, peanuts and sausages a few days in advance. The whole family got up early in the morning and began to make zongzi. It seemed easy to make zongzi, but it was a little difficult to wrap it. I managed to make a zongzi, but it was like a "wounded soldier", staggered, and finally picked up and fell down. Mom took a look at the different dumplings and taught me: "First of all, you should be patient and not impatient. Fold the leaves up and down, and take care not to take them backwards. Fold the half of the leaves close to the leaf tip into a triangular bucket, press the folded leaf tip with your thumb upward with your palm, and drag the other four fingers under the leaves. First, put a red date to block the tip tightly, then put rice to cover the red date, then fold back the part of the brown leaves to cover the wrapping tightly, and then tie the excess leaves and lines tightly with the rope Cut it off. "
After listening to my heart, I thought that the little dumplings still have so much knowledge, so I'd better learn! I folded two roughly large zongzi leaves in order and made them into a funnel shape. First, I put a jujube and then put glutinous rice, three times around four rolls, ha ha! A great general appeared, and tied his belt, he looked even more impressive!
At noon, eating my own dumplings, I feel happy, real and sweet!
