THW Ban Beauty Contests Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, it is a great honor to be here as the proposition team. Our motion today is The house would ban beauty contests. First of all, as a prime minister I want to offer you our definition. Secondly, I will give the criteria about the debate. Thirdly, I will indicate the status quo and the harms of beauty contests. At the end, I’d like to give the policy and its benefits. Definition: Beauty contest is a competition for women and girls that focused on the physical beauty of its contestants. Criteria: Setting up the correct understanding of beauty, at the same time opposing the eagerness for quick success and instant benefit. Status quo: Every year, thousands of girls compete in various beauty contests. most of them have a super star dream in heart. The females regard slender figures as beauty in the modern aesthetics which forces beauty contestants to lose weight in some inappropriate ways. Most of contestants regard beauty contests as a shortcut to be a celebrity. They put down studies and be fixed on outer beauty because women in beauty contests are judged on their physical appearance rather than on any other qualities they may possess. What’s more, some bribery phenomenon exists in beauty contests because of the anxiety to achieve quick success. Harms: Firstly, young girls have to eat very little to keep fit which sometimes may do harm to their health, such as anorexia. Some even do a liposuction. Secondly, a growing number of people ignore the inner beauty. Thirdly, the infringement of privacy right always bothers these winner of beauty contests. Plan: We propose the house should ban beauty contests. Not everyone need slender figure, and health is the most important. People need to pay much attention to inner beauty and continuously enrich mind. Our attitude about quick success need a change. Benefits: Firstly, the ban of beauty contests make people pay careful attention to keep healthy by proper ways. Secondly, the ban could change people’s blind pursuit to the outer beauty.
