山东建筑大学毕业论文 Abstract Ernest Hemingway, the spokesman for the "Lost Generation ", was written into the history for his outstanding contributions to American literature. However, his viewpoint of women has been the focus of commentary. Quite a lot of critics regard him as a male power principle for his loathing women, but many scholars think that he was a man who supported the women's movement and sympathized the pain of women. Through the analysis of the social background, Hemingway’s life experience and the two types of women characters in his works, the paper explores the duality of Hemingway’s viewpoint of women. The whole paper is divided into five parts. The Introduction gives a general idea of the background of the study, the main content and the significance of the paper. Chapter 1 discusses the social background and Hemingway’s life experience. Chapter 2 deals with the women figures in Hemingway's works and divides them into two kinds: the ideal one and the pitiful one. Chapter 3 focuses on the greatness and limitation of Hemingway. The Conclusion sums up all the points mentioned above and points out Hemingway’s contradictory viewpoint of women and the enlightenment to the modern society.
