Impeachment of Park Geun-hye March 10, 2017, president of South Korea Park Geun-hye was impeached. She had several charges and they are the reasons why she was impeached. I am going to talk about three of the charges. Firstly, Park received the bribe. As a president, receiving the bribe is a big charge. The known amount of money she received is about 30 billion won. That is an amazing figure. Second charge of Park is the abuse of authority. There is a private organization called Mir Foundation in Korea. The purpose of this organization is researching the culture of Korea. And it is known that many major companies raised large amount of money to Mir Foundation. It can be simply seen that they just raised the money in the good purpose of encouraging the action to improve our culture. But the fact is that the donation of money is all from the order of Park.In this case, the amount of money is around 70 billion won.Why did Park make this kind of order? She has been suspected that her purpose is to use the money for her own interest. And Park’s dereliction of duty is another charge of her.April 16, 2014, a big accident happened. The Sewol ferry sank into the sea and many students in the ferry lost their lives. At the time, Park was in the residence office which is the place that president uses before she goes to work or after work. It means that Park didn’t go to work that day. Because of that, the chief presidential secretary couldn’t report the accident to the president immediately. So they couldn’t handle the case instantly when the fast action was needed. These are three charges of the total 13 charges of Park and she has already impeached. There will be presidential election on May 9, 2017.
