Essay 1 In the reading passage, the article argued that the moon did not come from the earth and there are three reasons which support the author's opinion in the article. In the listening material, the professor clearly disagree with the reasons which we always ignored as common readers and he gave his opinion. First of all, the professor pointed out it is groundless that no mark on the earth was found when another planet crashed the earth. The professor claimed that such a big crash was happening long time ago so that the mark which caused by the crash does not exist anymore. That is the reason why we cannot see any mark on the earth. Secondly, the professor certainly contradicted to the water problem which stated in the article. In the article, the author said that the material in the moon should be the same as the earth if the material of the moon came from the earth. And also, the author stated that there is no evidence to show that water has been existed. In the lecture, the professor argued that the temperature in the moon is much higher than the earth. Even if there was water existed in the moon, the water still could not survive from the high temperature. Finally, the listening passage disagreed with the different density between the moon and the earth. The professor said that the material came from the earth is part of the earth's surface instead of the core of the earth. Therefore, it is normal that there is a different density between the earth and the moon. And also, the professor explained that the density of the moon is similar to the density of the earth's surface. Therefore, it is reasonable for the material of the moon came from the earth. In conclusion, the professor in his lecture argued with the points which were stated in the article. He also gave specific reasons to support his opinion. Essay 2 In the history, civilization has been improved the human's society. Many people have their own rights to live in the modern society such as voting rights. As the society improved, the benefit from the civilization has been given people a better social environment to live. In my opinion, I believe that the civilization has been helped our society a lot. Our society has gone through unparalleled changes over the ages. From the moment we sharpened a piece of stone to make our first primitive but innovative tool to the era of modern engineering, from the cave drawings that depicted our forefathers’ ingenuity to the grand buildings that symbolize the power of our imagination, civilization was and still is at the center of them all. First of all, the civilization gives people more freedom to live in the society. In the Chinese history, there was a period that king was the leader for the whole nation. Everyone in China had to follow his ideas. It made unequal social status within the society and I do not think it was good way to keep the peace within the society. For example, there were many revolution in ancient China to fight with the government which was controlled by the king, because the king made the resource of food unbalanced distributed so that many poor people does not have enough food to eat. That made them to fight with the rich people even the government. It goes without saying, freedom which is enjoyed by millions, came from the cradle of civilization. When we look back in time, it is not hard to find the superstitious ideas that led the ancient Chinese to believe that the rulers had the supreme or even supernatural powers over their lives. However, the fate of China relied not on the old believes but on the modern civilization. The transformation was simply nothing but astonishing. Secondly, as I mentioned above, people need to have their rights such as vote. One of the most important parts for the civilization is to give people equal rights to live in their nation. It is very important that people can choose the leader they trusted. For instance, in ancient China, people does not have opportunities to choose their leader so that there was many wars in China between the government and its people. Right now, Chinese government has been established a better voting system so that the people can choose their representative first. And then, representatives will represent them to vote the leaders for the Chinese government. The results always come out convincingly. To solidify my already flawless argument further, it is our own civilization that made it possible for our voting scheme to mature. The notion that only a carefully chosen few could make their way to the top of the government in China with the supervision of the populace was the vision of the founding members of the largest country in the orient. Though cautiously implemented, the reality was far from ideal. The people, who were initially put to the task, carried little or no meaning in the election process. Now, the establishments of voting parlors can be seen nearly every corner at the end of the street. The representatives that we voted for occupy the seats in the people’s hall. Only a civilized society can make such a tremendous feat that our ancestors could only dream of. Finally, the civilization provides more opportunities for people to communicate with each other. After the civilization provided an equal environment in the human's society, there will be less conflicts in the society. People can make more friends easily. In conclusion, civilization can help our society improve and give people more rights and freedom to live within it.
