Unite: Module 7 My School Day

Unite 2 Lessons Start at Nine O'clock Grade Level: Junior Middle School Students, Grade 1 Time Duration: 45 mins Teaching objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students school be able to: 1. Get information from a description of a school day 2. Tell the time in English fluently 3. Describe their school days

4. Use conjunction "and" to join sentences

5. Remember some important phrases, like get up, go home, go to…, do one`s homework, have a break, talk to, go to bed and "have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner/supper" Important&Difficult points: 1. Describe a school day 2. Join sentences with "and"

Teaching Aids: chalk, blackboard, tape and white paper Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Warming up (4 mins)

a). Look at the watch and point out the time T: Please tell me what's the time now.

b). Express time in English: 3:30, 7:30, 9:00, 10:45, 12:15 Write these on the blackboard and ask Ss to say it out T: Now, I would like some of you to say these. **, 3:30(half past three)

**, 7:30(half past seven) 9:00 (nine o'clock)

**, 10:45(ten forty five/ fifteen to eleven/ a quarter to eleven) 12:15(fifteen past twelve/ a quarter past twelve)

c). Ask about what are their lessons today T: How many classes do you have today? Ss: ...

T: what are they? Ss: ...

Step 2. Learn the new words ( 8 mins)

a). Make the students read after me from "get up" to "dinner" in P130 T: Please read after me, get up...

b). Students read the word by themselves, each word read twice. T: Read the words by yourselves, each word read twice. Step3. Teach the text in P44 ( 20mins) a). Play the tape and listen.

T:Hi, class! You all go to school every day. Today we will learn to tell something


about your school day. Now turn to page 44. This is an email sent by Alex, in this email he tells us his school day, I will play the tape for you. But before listening, let guess what Alex do in the pictures in page 44.

T: Now, let's listen to the tape carefully to see if you are right and correct the wrong ones.

b). Play the tape again and ask the Ss to finish task 1 and 2

T: listen again and try to put the pictures in order and finish exercise 2. And check the answers with your partner.

c). Call back the answers from the whole class

d). Let the Ss read the passages after me. And answer the following questions: T: read the passages after me, and then discuss with each others to find out the answers of following questions.(put paper 1 one the blackboard)

1). When does Alex get up?

2). When does Alex go to school? 3). When do they have a break? 4). When do they have lunch? 5). When do the lessons start? 6). When does Alex go to bed? e). Check the answer.

f). Translate passage 1, passage 2 and passage 4, then ask Ss to translate the rest. The Chinese of the passages:

1. 嗨,我是格里尔诺.阿里克斯。13岁了,在英国牛津的公园学校上学。这是我在学校的一天。早上我七点起床,然后吃早饭。

2. 我的学校在我家旁边。我八点半去学校,九点开始上课。我们在上午有三节课。我最喜欢的课是美术。

3. 11点,我休息时与我的朋友们交谈。他们去操场踢足球,但是我不喜欢踢足球!

4. 我们在十二点半在餐厅吃饭。我喜欢学校的午饭!我们吃肉和米饭还有蔬菜或者汉堡。我喝可乐或者水。

5. 在下午一点半开始上课。在下午我们有两节课。我们在三点回家。6在晚上,我们看电视和吃晚饭。我写我的作业,在十点上床睡觉。

f). Ask Ss to fill in the following form with the help of exercise 5 in P47. (put paper 2 on the blackboard)

T: please turn to page 47, there is a form. Do this job by referring to the form. You have 2mins to finish it.(work around to help)

g). Pair work. Describe their school days with their desk-mates.

T: Just now you have finish a time table, now I'll give you 2 mins to describe your school day with your desk-mates according your time table.

h). Ss volunteer to describe their partner's school day (two Ss) If there is no volunteer, ask two Ss.

T: any volunteer to describe your partner's school day? OK. **, please./no volunteer? OK, **.please. Step4. Use "and" to join two sentences (10mins) A). Explain the use of "and"

T: please look at No.6 in page 45(put paper 3on the blackboard)

T: the second line and the forth line, there is a word "and", can you see it? Ss: ...

T: "and" here is a conjunction, used to connect two or more than two

sentences that share the same subject, we can just keep the first one and omit the others, and used "and" to join them into one sentence.

T: for example(put paper 4 on the blackboard)

B). Exercise and check the answer

T: now, look at the following exercise, used "and" to join the sentence in

No.3, 4 and 5, I will give you 2 mins. T: read the sentence that you have joined.

Step5. Summary1mins

T: In today's class, we have learned to describe a school day, hope you practice more and read the text over and over. So that you can be more familiar with the content and learn to describe a school day fluently. Step6. Homework Assignment ( 2mins)

Finish exercise 6 in page 47

T: now, we know Alex's school day well, are your school day the same with him? I think Alex also wants to know how's your school day, so today's homework is to write a short passage to talk about your school day. And hand it in before Thursday
