Skopostheorie

The skopos theory was introduced into translation theory in the 1970s by Hans J. Vermeer. It includes three principles: skopos rule, coherence role, and fidelity role. Skopos rule explains that translation is determined by purpose. Coherence rule mainly focus on the coherence of form and meaning. Fidelity rule is faithful to the original writing. If there is contradiction among three principles, skopos rule should be put in the first place.

Cannibalism ideas are the representative ideas in the context of post-colonial translation ideas. C ideas advocated that through absorbing the essence of a strong culture, create a new local culture. C have a great impact on the translation activity at the time, attempting to change the culture of the disadvantaged position, break the silence of weak culture and laid a solid foundation.

There is an example. When we translate the sentence-- Mr. Zhang’s son is a teacher. There exists a presupposition: Mr. Zhang has a son, and his son is a teacher.

The translational action model is proposed by Justa, a Finland-based German professional translator. This approach focuses on the process of translating rather than the end product of the translation itself. It focuses on the idea that we should use the comprehensive consideration to deal with translation.

The unit of translation: This term refers to the element used by the translator when working on the ST. It may be the individual word, group, clause, sentence or even the whole text.

Transeme is proposed by Van. Translation is understandable text units. It mainly includes two types: state of affairs transeme(事态译素) and satellite transeme (边缘译素). A sentence always includes one or more transemes.
