　　1 arrive in：到达，同义词：arrive at，reach，get arrive是不及物动词，因此后面一定要加介词使用。arrive in是指到达了大的地方，而arrive at则是指到达小地方。get to+宾语：到达

　　When will you arrive? When will you reach(arrive in) Beijing?

　　When will you get to Beijing? How can I get there?

　　get home：到家，get there：到那

　　home/there都是副词，副词跟动词连用的时候不需要加介词

　　2 the way to:通往...路

　　Can you tell me the way to the school?

　　你能告诉我去学校的路怎么走吗?

　　相关短语：give way 撤退，让路，屈服 by way of 经过，用……方法

　　The enemy troops had to give way.

　　敌军不得不撤退。

　　After months of prospecting he finally struck gold.

　　经过数月的勘探，他终于发现了金矿。

　　3 not only...but...as well：不但...而且... 这是一个并列连词，表示什么东西并列连接什么

　　I can speak Chinese. I can speak English.组合到一句话即为：I can speak not only Chinese but English as well.

　　类似的句子如：I not only sing but dance as well.

　　一般来说，not only 喜欢放在动词的前面。遇到实义动词和非实义动词的时候则习惯放在二者之间。I can speak not only Chinese but English as well.

　　4 neither...nor... 即不...也不...neither单独使用时词性很灵活，可以做代词，表示两者都不;做形容词表示两者都不的;做副词表示也不;做连词时表示既不，也不的意思。

　　I speak neither Janpanese nor English.

　　我既不会说英语，也不会说日语。

　　Neither of my sisters drinks coffee.

　　我的两个姐妹都不喝咖啡。

　　better than anyone else 表示级的含义，形容词比较级与anyone，anything这类不定代词使用表示级别。

　　The teacher is the tallest.=The teacher is taller than anyone else.

　　3 My sister is only seven, but she always tells me whether my pictures are good or not.

　　我的妹妹只有7岁，但她总能说出我的画是好还是坏。

　　本句中Whether ...or not= if，表示选择，是……还是……

　　I don't know whether he is willing to come.

　　我不知道他是否愿意来。

　　I don't care whether I get it or not.

　　我不在乎我是否可以得到它。

　　4 She looked at it critically for a moment.

　　她评论性地看了一会儿这幅画。

　　相关短语：of the moment 现时的 at the moment 此刻, 现在

　　at any moment 随时，在任何时候 the moment 一 ... 就 ...,...

　　1 put up：支起，搭建

　　Tom put his lunch up in a bag.

　　汤姆将午饭装进了包里。

　　相关短语：put up with 忍受, 容忍 put trust in 对 ... 信任 put out 熄灭 put to use 投入使用, 利用

　　We have to put up with her bad temper.

　　我们只得忍受她的坏脾气。

　　I don't trust those slick salesmen.

　　我不信任那些油嘴滑舌的推销员。

　　2 As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire.

　　这件事刚刚做完，他们就在篝火上烧起了饭。

　　本句中，as soon as表示“一……就”，形容前后两个动作连接之紧密。同样表达类似词意的词还有：immediately

　　I came immediately I heard the news.

　　We take off our shoes and creep cautiously along the passage.

　　我们脱掉了鞋，在走廊中蹑手蹑脚地往前走。

　　与creep搭配的其它短语有：give sb the creeps 使某人毛骨悚然 creep up on 爬向，慢慢爬来

　　The cat crept up on the bird and pounced.

　　那只猫悄悄地爬近那只鸟，接著便猛扑过去。

　　词义辨析

　　creep, climb, crawl

　　这些动词都有“爬”之意。

　　creep: 多指人或四足动物匍匐爬行，尤指偷偷地或不出声地缓慢向前爬行。也指植物的蔓延生长等。

　　climb: 通常指用手或足爬上或爬下，也指飞机、日、月的上升，还可用作比喻。

　　crawl: 指人或动物以身躯贴着地面缓慢地移动。

　　5 The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent!那小溪弯弯曲曲穿过田野，然后正好从他们的帐篷底下流过去。

　　wind在句中做动词用，表示蜿蜒，过去式和过去分词都是wound;做名词时表示微风。
