Unit 6 An old man tried to move the mountains.(1a-2d)



Teaching Objects 1. knowledge objects

Words: shoot, stone,remind,god, etc.

Phrases: once upon a time, keep on doing sth, work on Sentences: How does the story begin? What happened next? 2. ability objects

Ss are supposed to learn to tell the story of Yu Gong with new words and phrases. 3. Moral objects

Ss can learn the spirit of Yu Gong.

Teaching difficult and key points

1. Ss can get key points while listening.

2. Ss can tell a story fluently and express their opinions on the story.

Teaching Procedures: Step 1. Lead-in

Pictures of Traditional Chinese Stories:

Hou Yi shoots the suns. Change flies to the Moon. Nu Wa repairs the sky. Journey to the West Yu Gong Moves the mountains.

Ss: Why did he want to move mountains?

how could he do that?

设计意图:通过图片简述故事,让学生简单了解中国传统故事。让学生对愚公提问来引起学生对《愚公移山》的兴趣。

Step 2 Listening 1b

1 Listen to the audio and finish the exercise 1b 2 Check answers

3 Listen for the second time, and fill in the blanks.

T: How does the story begin? What happned next?

Where would they put all the earth and stone from the mountains? 4 The teacher sticks three according pictures on the white board.

设计意图:通过两次听力,让学生加深对愚公移山的原因和做法的理解。

教师通过以上三个问题和白板上的三张图片帮助学生梳理故事情节,为后面讲述故事铺垫。

Step 3 pair work

Work in pairs and discuss How does the story begin?

What happned next?

Where would they put all the earth and stone from the mountains? Invite severl groups to display their conversation.

设计意图:通过小组讨论,加深对故事情节发展的理解。

Step 4 Listening 2a

1 Listen to the rest of the story and finish the exercise 2a


2 Check answers and stick the rest of pictures on the white board. 3 Listen for the second time and finish exercise 2b.

设计意图:通过听力和图片展示,让学生进一步了解剩下的故事。

Step 5 Retell the story(group work)

Work in groups. Encourage students to use their own way to retell the story. (1) Use your owns words to generize the story. (2) Use I to tell the story.

Eg. I am Yu Gong. I am nearly 90 years old. I live

设计意图:用第一人称或第三人称等方式来讲故事,丰富讲故事的形式,打破常态化,让讲故事变得更加有趣。

Step 6 Evaluate the storypair work

T: What do you think of the story of Yu Gong? What can you learn from him?

Where is a will, there is a way.(有志者事竟成) 设计意图:从愚公的故事中得到启示,情感升华。

Step 7 Homework

Write down the story of Yu Gong.
